Home Ec: Repair Character

-As of late I'm really beginning to appreciate the detail and character that's added to a garment as you repair it; Whether you're sewing on plastic $.01 buttons in place of missing wooden ones, or patching the knee of your favorite pair of Levi's with a pocket from an old pair, the resultant individuality given to each garment is priceless. School Supplies: Ralph Lauren Rugby High Seas Cardigan

-I was just browsing on Rugby today and I found this cardigan. A lot of people in the style blogosphere would find this piece a little too out-there for their tastes, but that's why I like it. $130 is a little more than I'd usually consider dropping on a cardigan, but I need pieces like this to remind myself that before I was engrossed in a style blogosphere that, while it provides a wealth of alternative points of view to counteract magazines and other dominant media, gets bogged down by a regurgitation of trends and uniformity of thought, I made a name by being a daring sartorialist. Pieces like this remind me that personality was always my biggest style influence.

Design Major: Trovata FW/09

-This show didn't receive a very good review, and I agree that overall it was pretty dull, but I liked some of the specific things going on within. A cardigan over a vest is something I did last year that I think has a lot of room for good variation. And again with the missed buttons on the cardi, I guess I was ahead of the game on that one too.

Dress Code: Double-Breasted Cardigan

-Speaking of hipsters, I was at American Apparel with messdemeanor this week and I saw this double breasted cardigan ($40.) I noted the DB cardi in my Paul Smith review last month. I think there are a lot of interesting possibilities I could create with the DB cardi, though I think the width it creates might make a tie look awkward. Anyway, I'm going to buy one.-And if you're checking out a.a., you should check out their vintage line, California Select, which a great example of a company actually employing an innovative strategy. more
