Design Major: Trovata FW/09

-This show didn't receive a very good review, and I agree that overall it was pretty dull, but I liked some of the specific things going on within. A cardigan over a vest is something I did last year that I think has a lot of room for good variation. And again with the missed buttons on the cardi, I guess I was ahead of the game on that one too.

Design Major: NYC Spring 09 Shipley & Halmos

-I think I've read about Shipley & Halmos in every style related magazine this past year. That being said, I was mildly excited to see what they'd offer for NYC Fashion Week, but as they are from the Trovata camp, the collection was very similar (the trench/short combos,) and similarly blasé. Check the (few) looks I liked after the jump.

-Not too innovative, but the fit of the trouser is a good deal slimmer than a lot of the other designers have been doing.

-This look is a bit indicative of something I felt about the entire show, that it was a bit feminine for my tastes. But something about the casual use of the cumberbund is really interesting.

-I usually don''t include photos of the designers, but I really like those jeans. That's all.

Design Major: NY Fashion Week Begins

-New York Fashion week just started so it's time for more runway reviews. Even though we're living on sparse stolen wireless right now, we'll get you the best from the men's shows as they come in. This picture is from the one of the week's first shows, Trovata. Sadly, this was the only photo that really interested me at all. The rest of the collection was tired and nothing we haven't seen before. More rolled up pants and short shorts and terrorist scarves (still? really?.) But I like the idea of the trench coat with shorts for spring.
