Fall Quarter: First Cold-ish Day

-$5 Urban glasses
-J.Crew linen oxford
-J.Crew repp tie
-French Connection sweater vest
-Naked & Famous jeans
-Top-Siders
-Wilson Leather laptop bag
-And even though I just spent more than anyone should have to on Polaroid film on eBay, I took Foster's advice and snagged the Camerabag app for iPhone so now I can take semi-douchey faux-Polaroids whenever I please.

School Supplies: Cool Cats x Sebago

-As a die-hard Top-Sider aficionado, it's a rule that I despise the Sebago Dockside. Also, I've always thought the idea of a black deck shoe was a bit amiss. But I really dig these Docksides by Parisan collection Cool Cats. The colored eyelets are really great and somehow the black on white looks super clean. The collab is limited to 75 pairs and they're selling for 165 euros, about $240. If these were under $100 I'd probably snag them.

Fall Shopping List: Engineered Garments Flannel Bowtie

-I never know if it's bowtie or bow tie. Anyway, I've been looking for a grey-ish bow tie for a long time and after waking up too late to grab one from Bixby and Thom Browne a couple times on Gilt, I decided to pull the trigger on this one. The price was a little more than I'd planned on spending on a bowtie but whatever, it's my first EG purchase and it's exactly what I wanted for the cold months.

School Supplies: Fall Shopping List

-I've got a great classic Harris Tweed jacket that I love, but the cut is a bit more classic than something I want to rock everyday. To fulfill my tweed need I'm probably going to snag this Whitman herringbone sportcoat from J.Crew. It's thinner and shorter than my Harris so it should do well at dinner or just on campus with or without my trench.

School Supplies: Fall Shopping List

-I'm gearing up to drop quite a bit of dough on clothing this season as I finish my last year of college and try to look dapper as I head out into the dire job market, so I figured I'd share some of the things that are on my definite buys list for the fall/winter. The first item is this Company of We captain leisure jacket. This one, in herringbone grail, comes in at $260 but I got a $25 coupon just for signing up for their e-mail list. I've wanted a DB blazer for awhile and this is a super-slim, moderately priced option from a brand I've got a growing appreciation for.

Design Major: Marc by Marc Jacobs

-I didn't post a lot of pictures from NY fashion week because, as I'm trying to get my mind right for fall and thinking about what things I need and how I want to layer them, I'm not really in the mindset to think about or be inspired by spring collections. Marc by Marc Jacobs was one of the few collections I liked this time around, probably because it seems a little more like a late summer-early fall transitional collection rather than a springtime sunshine collection. And dude, look at that cardigan, it's fucking boss and I want it.

Home Ec: Repair Character

-As of late I'm really beginning to appreciate the detail and character that's added to a garment as you repair it; Whether you're sewing on plastic $.01 buttons in place of missing wooden ones, or patching the knee of your favorite pair of Levi's with a pocket from an old pair, the resultant individuality given to each garment is priceless. Click picture for details.

Music Theory: Kid Cudi

-Kid Cudi's long-awaited album Man on the Moon: The End of Day dropped today, and after a few listens I must say I am quite impressed. I've slowly become a fan of Cudi's introspective lyrics and wholly unique approach to hip hop, but some people are apparently hesitant to jump on the bandwagon. The Washington Post sees Cudi as a mediocre Kanye clone: "Signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music imprint, Ohio rapper Kid Cudi has ripped off his label owner's formula."
-Of course, had they done their research, they would know that Cudi is quite the opposite. Most know that Kanye actually hired Kid Cudi to help write four songs on his 808s and Heartbreak album (including my two favorites, "Welcome to Heartbreak" and "Paranoid"), and many speculate that Cudi's mixtape actually inspired Kanye to do the album in the first place. BET's Rising Icon special (above) features some solid performances as well as some insight into Cudi's much-publicized issues, and is a must-watch for anyone who is not yet familiar with his work. more
