School Supplies: Steven Alan Wool Camp Glove

-I stumbled upon these gloves while browsing on Steven Alan and now I want them. The plaid top is a dope alternative to a solid leather driving glove look. The best thing about these though is the thumb slit that lets you pop your thumb out so you can still iPhone in the cold. The worst thing about these is the $128 price tag, so I'll file them under maybe when I get really cold. more

Peer Review: In The Closet Fall

-I'm digging most of Tyler and Josh's picks, except for that hideous black leather jacket. Foster, if you're reading this, I feel like you and I could do these guys' job with a much lower douchiness quotient. more

Fall Quarter: First Cold-ish Day

-Today was the first day since school started that the temp dropped below 60.
-$5 Urban glasses
-J.Crew linen oxford
-J.Crew repp tie
-French Connection sweater vest
-Naked & Famous jeans
-Top-Siders
-Wilson Leather laptop bag
-And even though I just spent more than anyone should have to on Polaroid film on eBay, I took Foster's advice and snagged the Camerabag app for iPhone so now I can take semi-douchey faux-Polaroids whenever I please.

School Supplies: Fall Shopping List

-I've got a great classic Harris Tweed jacket that I love, but the cut is a bit more classic than something I want to rock everyday. To fulfill my tweed need I'm probably going to snag this Whitman herringbone sportcoat from J.Crew. It's thinner and shorter than my Harris so it should do well at dinner or just on campus with or without my trench.

School Supplies: Fall Shopping List

-I'm gearing up to drop quite a bit of dough on clothing this season as I finish my last year of college and try to look dapper as I head out into the dire job market, so I figured I'd share some of the things that are on my definite buys list for the fall/winter. The first item is this Company of We captain leisure jacket. This one, in herringbone grail, comes in at $260 but I got a $25 coupon just for signing up for their e-mail list. I've wanted a DB blazer for awhile and this is a super-slim, moderately priced option from a brand I've got a growing appreciation for.

Dress Code: I want a wacky fall sweater

-These sweaters from The Inoue Brothers, a design team I'd never heard of before seeing these but have since become very intrigued by, reminded me of an important concept I need to keep in mind for fall. I've never been one to make novelty or garishness a major tenet of my dress, but on the other hand, I've always hated the idea falling into a pattern of routine dress. The latter seems to happen to us more and more as we age, we adopt a uniform and perfect it (for me the fall uniform usually consists of Levi's, oxford shirt, tie, crew neck sweater). As sartorialists we must always be looking for new ways to re-work the items we already own, and in the same vein, looking to add pieces that maybe break the consistent mold we've created for ourselves. I really like the idea of a bright, almost cartoony sweater for the fall. These impeccably made sweaters could be used in a variety of ways, I'm thinking over a dark oxford/tie combo, under my trench coat.
-This is a nerdy sweater that for some reason I put in my blog folder and now since I'm talking about wacky sweaters I included it. I'm not commenting on its merit, but it did remind be that's it's never a bad thing to include a little occupational or academic humor in your attire. Occasionally.

PR: Gant x The Sartorialist

-Classic American line Gant has been on a pretty impressive renaissance tear the last few years. The brand finds itself somewhere between the slightly upscale accessibility of J.Crew and the understated tradition of J.Press. With the ad campaign for the label's latest collection, Gant has teamed up with photographer Scott Schumann, aka The Sartorialist. The campaign features on-the-street style shots of stylish New Yorkers who had got the privilege of choosing their favorites from the latest Gant line. Just a note, I bought one of my favorite ties, by Gant, for $2.50 at Val Villy.
