-If you're going to be in Seattle August 14th and 15th you should try to weasel your way into some tickets to The Skateboard Film Festival. The festival is the world's first film festival devoted entirely to skate related content. Among the many great films to be shown, A Day at the Park, a film by Scott Yamamura which features footage from Seattle's best spots and parks will premier at the festival. Sponsored by Manik, Goods and Nike SB among others, the festival should be an amazing event for northwest skate fans.

Design Major: Manik x Cobain
-Manik has gotten quite a bit of attention for their photographer collaborations, like the recent Craig Wetherby collection that featured the likes of Slick Rick and Ghostface (below). However, their latest effort hits a bit closer to home. According to High Snobiety, the new Manik decks and clothes feature pictures from concert photographer Charles Peterson, several of which bear the likeness of Seattle legend Kurt Cobain. They will be available at Goods in the next few weeks.

School Supplies: Goods
-Though I am a fan of Laced Up, I have to say that my favorite Seattle boutique is the one a few blocks further down Pike Street. Goods hasn't received much love from us, but the shop is run by the guys behind Manik, one of our favorite Seattle skate companies.
-Goods has gained national attention for massive collaborations with companies like Stussy, and my man Sal Masekela has been known to rock a Goods tee on TV now and then. The latest series of Goods x Manik decks are set to drop in November.
-HighSnobiety recently reported on the Goods Fall 2008 collection, which is now available for purchase online. It is a pretty straightforward collection, featuring some nice denim and so much flannel you'd think Kurt was back in town.

Plagiarism: MaNiKe SB
-The popularity of Manik skates has skyrocketed over the past few years, and in our opinion they are Seattle's illest clothing company. We still love their product as much as we did when we started, and since the release of their George Carlin shirt and newest line of Artist Series decks it has been clear that Manik can't/won't stop.
-However, on a visit to Trickwood today I noticed a newly released Nike SB hoodie (on the right) that looked almost identical to an older Manik one (on the left). It is clearly pretty weak for a giant newcomer like Nike to snipe shit from a promising upstart, but it is also not surprising in the least.
-Anti-Nike sentiment is pretty common throughout the skate world these days, as an industry based around the underdog is now being taken over by the king of all corporations. Regardless, as long as Nike keeps putting out cool product (see: Nike SB x Shoe Goo) and getting people like P-Rod and ?uest to rep their SB gear, then they will remain a respected (if hated) force.

Faculty Retirements: YSL x GC x TR x TS x Manik x WTF Class Act
-We'd already gotten a bit of shit for not posting about the death of revolutionary fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent, and then we failed to comment on the passing of legendary comic George Carlin. Not to mention the untimely deaths of Tim Russert and Tony Snow, which, as journalism students, some of you may have expected us to note.
-Maybe we're just not good at dealing with deaths. Or maybe, as I'll make it seem with this post, we were just waiting for Northwest connections to aid us in offering pertinent posts.
-Seattle based premium skate brand Manik has helped us out this time by releasing this commemorative George Carlin "7 Last Words" tee. On the back of this shirt are Carlin's famous 7 words that prompted the Supreme Court decision that ruined public media for the rest of eternity. Available now at 5 & a Dime.
-We promise more timely death coverage in the future.

Design Major: Manik Skates
This post is a marvel of synergy. Today we were pondering both our crew's return to our adolescent pastime of skateboarding, and how to assert that our aim with this blog is to be northwest-centric. Eighty's Fresh hooked us up by bringing this to our attention: Manik skateboards, a Seattle based (and ill as fuck) skateboard company, just released these decks, which are hand-sketched and represent a Chinatown blockscape. Freshhh. Check out Manik, their decks take skateboard artistry to another level.
In other skate-style news, I purchased these kicks today. They're simple, and were only 50 bones.
