Faculty: Jimmy Fallon

-Today's New York Times features an article on Jimmy Fallon, who recently took over for Conan on Late Night. The article details the show's attempts to be more web-conscious that its competitors, with numerous Webisodes and incessant references to sites like Twitter and Facebook. The above sketch about "bromance novels" is mentioned in the article.
-Even though the NYT piece is a bit rough on Fallon, I have been pleasantly surprised by his first episodes. The country let out a collective groan when Fallon was announced as Conan's successor, but some solid skits, a relaxed screen presence, and The Roots have made the show pretty entertaining.

Extracurriculars: Swell x Innate

-Info from the press release is below, but how can I synthesize some info into this post? Well Swell is owned by our friend Heather, and it is where I recently purchased an ill tee from Timber Preservation Society. INNATE has hosted a couple dope parties and a little kid at the skatepark was riding an INNATE blank the other day and he said it was legit. They also sell Moment Skis, some of which are designed by another eye five friend, Carey Haider.

-From the press release: "It's more than an honor to have the artists of INNATE Snow & Skate as Swell's March Art Walk Artists. The exhibit will explore the process of an innovative local shop's screen printing and cut/sew threads from concept to creation.

Prepare to be amazed as INNATE takes over Swell from 6pm-10pm on Friday, March 6th. With live music, art, fashion and more, you cannot miss this fantastic event.

Along with the Art Walk comes the introduction and debut of the INNATE/Swell graphic that will be available via screenprint at INNATE. Please join us this Friday in welcoming INNATE's artists between 6pm-10pm at Swell."

School Supplies: Vans Peacoat Chukka

-Although pea coats are probably the most overdone staple of guys who claim to be fashionable, I really love this chukka from the Vans vault series. A great use of material for the fall/winter season, and nice inclusion of the iconic pea coat anchor button.

Tech Support: iSkateboard

-The iSkateboard app for the iPhone gives users a database of more than 30,000 skate spots, parks, and shops in most of the major skate cities in the U.S. and Europe. A badass app for any traveling skater.

Class Mates: Patel and Pinto

-I've avoided posting about Slumdog Millionaire because any discussion of the film should include a mention of Dev Patel's brilliant performance as Anwar for two seasons on the greatest television program ever, UK station E4's Skins. And since embedding has been disabled on all Skins related videos on YouTube, I've refrained from posting and asserting the pretentious attitude that comes with being privy of the brilliance of Skins.
-That being said, these photos of Slumdog star Freida Pinto are reason enough for me to finally mention the film. The shots are from Complex, a magazine I'm somewhat conflicted about but one that does a much better job at provocative photo shoots than Maxim or Blender. There's a pretty wide variety of unique beauties in the Complex Girls collection, it's definitely worth a look. Check some photos of some of our favorite Complex Girls after the jump.

-Be sure to click all the pictures for a larger view. Especially the Pinto shots, good lord.

Dress Code: Jumped?

-Does two examples constitute a trend? I don't know, but that's enough for me to comment before things get out of hand. Jumpsuits, for men that are not working mechanics, seems to be a burgeoning trend in menswear. I'm not entirely dismissing the idea, in fact, I think it's kind of a cool idea if the mechanics of movement and fit can be worked out. I just think the examples above, on the left from Alexander McQueen on Gilt (which looks like two pieces but is actually one,) and on the right, from Thom Browne F/W 09, need a little refinement before their ready for the streets. Share you thoughts, and we'll keep our eyes out for more on the trend.

Spring Break: Sasquatch!

-In addition to an expected appearance by Kings of Leon and a predicted appearance by Bon Iver, this year's Sasquatch! lineup features a ton of Pacific Northwest talent. While I am excited to see Seattle's Fleet Foxes (despite rumors that they suck live), the real spotlight seems to be on the Portland scene, with newer bands like Natalie Portman's Shaved Head playing alongside veterans such as M. Ward and The Decemberists. Even if you haven't bought a CD since the millenium, old favorites like NIN, Jane's Addiction and Murder City Devils will make the festival's steep ticket prices well worth it. The festival will take place from May 23-25th at The Gorge. more

Faculty: Death Cab

-I don't usually post music videos, but Grapevine Fires in basically the only track off Narrow Stairs that I listen to regularly. The animation style here is has a nostalgic feels that fits the tone of the songs, and the fact that Death Cab is finally coming back to their alma mater for a show next month made this post seem timely.
