Summer Vacation: Much Needed Sperry Upgrade

finally got new sperrys
-I finally got around to replacing my old Top-Siders. Unlike a lot of Sperry aficionados, I don't really dig the white sole found on most models, so I sprung for the Sahara colorway with the darker sole. Over the years I've heard of people recommend wearing Top-Siders in the shower or the ocean initially, something I didn't do when I bought my first pair back in high school. After consulting a few experts, I decided to go the shower route, which helps soften the leather a bit and also helps to keep the laces from coming untied. I also cut a few inches off my laces because I don't really go for the bunny-ear look. This time around, I'm going to make a point to shoe-tree my Sperrys after long days of wear to keep them from disintegrating and stinking too terribly.

Why no white on the bottom? I always thought that the white kept me from getting mine mixed up from my grandfather's.

Though the understated brown on brown does class it up a bit...

White bottoms are for sneakers.

A clever marketing scheme by Sperry. Convince purchasers to essentially destroy their new Topsiders because they'll look "cool" all beat-up and wrecked. In a few short year's they'll need to be replaced enhancing Sperry's bottom line. I applaud them.

I rock the black on black. They kinda look like the mono black Vans Authentics. Punk as fuuuh. Or Sperrys that Hova would wear.

Those Sperrys look like they've been in a peat bog for a year or two (thousand). I notice that J.Crew have started selling "broken-in" Top-Siders, which probably means they last half as long as the normal ones.

Yeah the 'worn-in' Sperrys are pretty lame because regular ones will look just like that in a matter of weeks, and the $100 J.Crew pricetag is pretty absurd.

Hey, do we get to vote? (kidding) I vote for the old ones. You should wear them till they're literally falling off your feet. I basically beat my new ones up till they look old and then they don't last too long, but I like the old look.
