-I've written a few times about how I prefer fall/winter style, but this winter has been brutally cold and wet, and I'm ready for some sun. With graduation (and having to find a job) on the horizon, I needed to upgrade my SS shirt game, so I turned to my friends at Wharf for a helping hand. Having been thoroughly satisfied with my Wharf "ONE" last season, this year I sprung for the THREE linen spread-collar and the TWO BD club-collar in seersucker. Aside from my purple chambray Gitman, I didn't have any shirts that were both light enough for the summer heat but refined enough for whatever formal tasks the summer might bring (job interviews, weddings, etc.) But I am legitimately stoked on these two shirts. The fabric choice is perfect for warm weather and collar type is versatile in its own way. I built a few SS looks around the two shirts, check out the photos and further commentary after the jump.
-On the new episode on No Logos (which will be out soon!) my colleagues express their affinity for an unbuttoned spread-collar. I have to respectfully disagree, I think spread collars should really only be rocked with a tie. That may limit the shirt's versatility, but I like that it forces you to dress up your look a bit, especially in the SS seasons when people tend to lean toward casual too often. What I like about the linen is that from any distance it looks refined, but it feels a bit rugged and breezy.

-Above: Some random leftover shots with the spread collar. The spread on the Wharf version isn't incredibly dramatic, which I think is a more accessible shirt for most guys, especially those making their first spread-collar purchase.

-This was my first club-collar purchase and what I'm really digging is the ability to go from dressed-up to casual easily. The BD club can be worn just like any other button-down collar.

where are the khakis from?
Lulz, you're weird-looking. Those shirts look good on you, though.
what a fantastic look man! Might have to check out some of the wharf shirts.
Khakis are Topshop/Topman
I'm diggin the outfits with the sweaters, as well as the last look. I would love to see Bill in some stuff like this.
you have me seriously thinking about ordering some wharf shirts. Can you comment on the fit. i'm 5'11 160 and often find the jcrew custom tailor shirts to still far to baggy.
Our the wharf one button downs slim cut?
I'm 5'11 and about 165, so these pictures might be a pretty good gauge for you. The Wharf shirts are definitely slimmer than J. Crew, though each fabric type is a little different (i.e., the small seersucker was a little shorter than the linen, the fabrics shrunk differently at the factory.) My ONE oxford is very similar to my Gitman Vintage in fit, which is to say, pretty slim.
I would have copped the blazer in both colors too. Shit is perfection.
I'm diggin the look, I have a question though:
Are your khakis, the "stone skinny fit trousers" from Topman? B/c Topman has skinny trousers in stone and light grey and they also have skinny fit chinos in the same two colors. I want to cop these, but I want to make sure I get the right ones. Thanks Angelo.
I checked the tag, it just says skinny. I bought them in-store so I don't recall the exact nomenclature, but they're definitely chino and they have traditional trouser pockets. The distinction may just be based on the fabric. I should note that I sized up in the waist by two inches because Topman runs wicked slim.
I'm about 5'10 160ish, athletic build. Usually wear a 34 waist, but I wear pants at my waist (I know alot of people wear them at the hips). Would you suggest I size up to a 36? Btw, wear is a Topman store? I'm from NYC, never seen one.
Solid look. Where is the jacket from? Also, anywhere else I can find the Wharf shirts other than their online store? They seem to be out of my size.
The Wharf online store doesn't seem to have my size in the gingham spread collar shirt. Any place else where I can find it/ other good recommendations for a similar shirt?
-Both Jackets are Rugby.
-Epaulet in NY just came out with a spread-collar gingham that is similar in price and quality, not linen though, and Ovadia & Sons has a spread gingham, but at a higher pricepoint.
the dark brown of the belt and loafers compliment the blue well. gucci loafers?
is the tie a skinny knit or a regular width knit?
Dude, I randomly came across your site and I like your wardrobe. Are you gonna be updating your site? I've bookmarked it.
Loafers are Alden, tie is 3in I believe, site will be updated regularly again after we find a new apartment— thanks for reading!
Your first spread collar?!? Over here in Blighty we wear them to school. A Windsor collar is de rigeur for all class/style conscious chaps. Button downs are a no-no (except possibly Ralph Lauren, but only possibly). Keep on educating, great work.
ok.trop cool et je reviendrai la prochaine fois.
