School Supplies: Wants

-3.1 Phillip Lim DB blazer still available on Gilt right now. I'd grab this if I had any Gilt credit left but I'm fresh out, so someone get it for me.

Design Major: Burberry Prorsum Spring 2010 RTW

-The collection was a little more dreary than past spring offerings, but I read somewhere that, fittingly, the economic times were a primary influence. Either way, the collection was sharp and seemed to me to be a little more aimed at the spring evening than a weekend at the beach, which isn't a bad thing at all.

Video Productions: Nemo x Kanights

Bryce Kanights- Part 1 of 3 from Nemo Entertainment on Vimeo.

-Mark Lewman from Portland's Nemo gallery produced this video about legendary skate photographer Bryce Kanights. In the video Kanights shoots at a secret pool in NE Portland that I'm going to try to locate this summer (hopefully before someone moves in,) and touches a bit on the nature of the industry in regards to up-and-coming skaters. Good stuff.

Design Major: John Varvatos Spring 2010 RTW

-Varvatos was a little underwhelming, but solid. Greys and muted brights, good cuts on the trousers, grey wool waistcoats are over, though.

Faculty: Muska x Element

MUSKA GETS ON ELEMENT from ELEMENT SKATEBOARDS on Vimeo.

-I've been a Muska fan since I rocked the original, iconic Muska silhouette Shorty's deck in 6th grade, and I've always like Element ever since Danny and I were skating Featherlights in middle school. I'm semi-pumped for the Element documentary, even though they've cheapened they're credibility a bit as of late by becoming the first super-company in skateboarding, producing boards, trucks and shoes all out of the same house.

Design Major: D&G Spring 2010 RTW

-File the D&G collection under 'Things that looks kind of cool on the runway but I'd deservedly get my ass kicked if I actually wore this.' I like it, but it's easy to see that these are the kind of collections that the folks at Abercrombie look at for inspiration.

School Supplies: Club Mumble x Furni

-One of our favorite blog communities, Club Mumble, has teamed up with the modern furniture gurus as Furni to produce this watch. Looks fresh, even though I don't wear a watch and often quote the late Mitch Hedberg who put the aversion aptly when he said: "I don't wear a watch because I want both of my arms to weigh the same."

Design Major: Dsquared2 Spring 2010 RTW

-I really liked the Dsquared2 collection. They kind of played on the American outdoors/workwear thing (the fervor around which I'm quickly tiring) and twisted it, opting instead for a more dandyish, European backpacking feel.

Film School: Nike SB Freebie

-The folks at Nike SB are providing free downloads and/or HD streaming of their new video, Debacle, which, given the way YouTube has completely destroyed the skate video as a form of revenue generation, is a great idea. You can get the video on the SB site.
-I'm most excited about Theotis Beasley's part. Theo has become one of my favorite skaters in recent months as much for his raw skating as for his positive demeanor. Check out this interview with the Beast from Skateboarder mag.

Design Major: Etro Spring 2010 RTW

-It's hard to get excited about Etro, even though I've been a fan of their blatant Italian garishness for a long time, because you pretty much know what you're going to see in every collection: Crazy patterns, ridiculous colors, etc. That said, the pieces in the three looks here are all things I would undoubtedly rock (that is, the individual shorts, shirts, that badass cardigan, by themselves, not the complete looks.) I just wish they'd tone down the outfits a bit so that one or two individual, provocative items would shine.

Design Major: Moschino Spring 2010 RTW

-Moschino is the first 2010 RTW show that I really loved. There was a little punk element in a lot of the looks that I didn't really dig (and therefore, didn't show here) but the newsprint was dope, the bleach-(looking) splatter was dope, the paint splatter was dope. The narrow, high trousers kept the looks cohesive even as they wandered from minimal khaki suits to red, white and blue splattered blazers.

Design Major: Trussardi 1911 RTW

-Since I heard about the revitalization of the Trussardi house a couple years ago I've been trying to like what they're doing, but the last couple collections have left me underwhelmed. However, the 2010 RTW offering from 1911 had a lot of pieces I could dig. The show was an eclectic mix of Old West cowboy, Indian, and even a some matador influence. I don't know if bow ties and short shorts fit cohesively with Native American themed gear, but alone I like the individual looks and the themes present therein. I also like that they kept the trousers slim and short throughout, lending a modern linking device to the variety of disparate looks. Click the image for a closer look.
-I'm about to pump out a bunch of our signature Class Act runway review posts tonight, check back.

Peer Review: Interview

-Remember when you subscribed to Interview like two months ago assuming that the first issue you'd receive would be the Emma Watson cover and then you were incredibly disappointed to find the Bjork cover in your mailbox? Yeah, me too. Hopefully the Ed Westwick piece will be dope.

Dress Code: PHILanthropy

-Yes, I wanted the Lakers to win, but this isn't a gloat post. Reason for post: Never wear a shirt without sleeves beneath a blazer/sport jacket/suit coat unless the jacket sleeves are rolled up all the way to you elbows, even if you just won your 10th championship.

Phys. Ed: Manny Mania

-RedBull continues to sponsor some of the dopest sporting events (Heavy Metal Portland 03' was ridiculous) and this year's Manny Mania in NYC was no exception. Great technical skating, and good to see some of my old favorites like Donnie Barley and Josh Kalis in the mix.  more

School Supplies: Summer School cont'd

1-Even though I bought my WeSC Bongo's not too long ago, I just saw these WeSC Alp Horn headphones on Karmaloop. Might just have to cop them when I get some dough.
2-Being a die-hard Northwest native, I could never rock galoshes, but I could definitely get with these Margiela rubber cap-toes. If I had a spare $690, that is. Via Acquire
